Healing is Not Linear

Healing is a dance of one or two steps forward followed by a few steps back. It is in the moments we lose our footing that test the progress we have made as well as show us the work still ahead.

How do you treat yourself when these types of moments arise? Are you: Kind? Forgiving? Harsh? Critical? Judgmental? Whatever the answer is, it is okay; healing will never be lost even when we feel we have returned to past patterns. There will always be another opportunity to put growth into action.

Although it may not feel like it at times, even just being aware of past behaviors or patterns after the fact shows tremendous growth and healing. We all have to begin somewhere and it takes a lot of courage to be honest with yourself about the moments you are not proud of.

Each day is a renewed chance to learn and try again. It is important to find softness for ourselves, especially when we fall short of our “expectations”.

We can’t heal what we can’t see within ourselves.
