Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a revolutionary treatment that combines the power of psychotherapy with Ketamine. Together, it has been proven an effective, accelerated treatment that can facilitate discovering new perspectives and personal insights, both of which can help us reframe ourselves in the context of our lives. Ketamine can help remove certain barriers that we may feel on our healing journey, giving us a newfound motivation to heal ourselves and relate to the world differently.
What Does KAP Treat?
KAP is effective in treating a variety of mental health concerns.
These include but are not limited to:
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Addiction (Alcohol, Opioid, Cocaine and Cannabis)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Attachment Disorders
Chronic Neuropathic Pain
Suicidal Ideation
What Can I Expect?
Entering a KAP session can evoke a mix of emotions, including curiosity, anticipation, and perhaps some apprehension. Throughout a KAP series, you can expect a safe and supportive environment where you are encouraged to explore your inner experience. The effects of ketamine may vary from person to person, but commonly reported experiences include:
Altered Perception: Ketamine can induce changes in perception, such as heightened sensory experiences, altered sense of time, and enhanced introspection. Clients may find themselves more attuned to their thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations.
Emotional Release: Ketamine has the capacity to unlock suppressed emotions and memories, allowing clients to confront and process difficult experiences. This can lead to cathartic releases of pent-up feelings and insights into longstanding emotional patterns.
Expanded Consciousness: Some individuals describe ketamine-induced states as transcendent or mystical, characterized by a sense of interconnectedness, ego dissolution, and profound insights into the nature of existence. These experiences can foster a deep sense of awe and wonder.
Throughout the session, I will be by your side as you explore the material that emerges. This may involve verbal dialogue, creative expression, mindfulness practices, and other therapeutic techniques to support the process. Some Ketamine experiences are extremely insular with little to no verbalizing or movement. I meet my clients where they are at throughout their journeys with what feels supportive to them..
The Process
If you choose to pursue KAP, I will refer you to a provider who is able to prescribe
the medicine to you. I work exclusively with sublingual Ketamine which is administered
orally at the beginning of our KAP sessions. Before any KAP session, there will be a
number of 1:1 sessions together preparing you for this journey. During these preparatory sessions we
will go over guidelines, paperwork, procedures for the medicine sessions together,
intentions and other aspects to make you feel as comfortable as possible. The amount
of KAP sessions that we will have together depends on what the provider recommends in
terms of frequency for your specific needs.
A typical Ketamine session is about 3 hours long and within 48-72 hours of each KAP session we
will have a 50-minute 1:1 integration session to help you process and integrate
your experience as you progress throughout the treatment.
Integration work is a pivotal aspect of psychedelic therapy and I will be guiding you
and working with you to determine what types of integration feel most supportive to you. Integration
can look like a variety of things such as: art, journaling, intentional movement, other creative forms of
expression, eating healthier foods, exercising, using electronics less, it can also be holding a sentiment
from the journey at the forefront of your mind daily. Integration is the most important aspect of
psychedelic therapy so it is important to find ways to integrate your experience into your life in
ways that work for you.
My Role as a KAP Therapist
I will be by your side offering support and guidance as needed throughout the entirety of our sessions together. My role is to create a safe, warm, non-judgmental and supportive space for your journeys. Whether your session is an insular experience or involves verbally processing, I encourage all of my clients to lean into their intuition. I believe that our inner-wisdom is a guiding force in psychedelic therapy. I consider it a great honor to sit with individuals in altered states of consciousness as they embark on this deeper journey of self-discovery.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy offers a unique pathway to healing and self-discovery for those seeking relief from mental health challenges. By combining the therapeutic insights of psychotherapy with the neurobiological effects of ketamine, clients can embark on a journey of profound transformation and growth.
