Adult Psychotherapy

Do you feel disconnected from yourself and others? Depressed? Anxious? You are not alone. With my counseling clients, I believe in looking at the entire picture of one’s life. The therapeutic relationship is a sacred space to explore the darkest depths and wonders of life in a collaborative process between therapist and client. I utilize a mix of talk-therapy, mindfulness, parts-work, EMDR and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to create a well-rounded and compassionate approach to healing.

Teen & Young Adult Psychotherapy

The world we inhabit is a confusing and difficult place. Between the academic and social pressures, the impending climate crisis and the self-harm and suicide epidemic amongst young people; teens and young adults face an unknown and terrifying future. I believe that it is crucial to equip young people with the proper skills, tools and confidence to help them better manage distressing and potentially life-threatening situations. I use a mix of talk-therapy, DBT and strength-based counseling to help clients pin-point what is going well in their lives and worth living for, and what they desire to change in their lives and how we reach that change, together.

I also offer family therapy sessions in order to help families improve communication, how they relate to each other and find deeper understanding for familial patterns that could be informing current issues. Certain situations require the entire family unit to be on the same page and I believe that this continuity is important in order to see real, lasting changes outside of weekly therapy sessions .

Couples Counseling

Whether you are in a new couple or have been together for years, couples counseling is a wonderful way to strengthen, better understand and shift the relationship dynamic. It can be helpful to have an intentional space to discuss difficult topics or situations while having the neutral support of a therapist. I am passionate about helping couples that I work with improve communication between one another, find deeper compassion for each other’s experience and overall feel more connected to themselves and the relationship. Relationships can bring some of the greatest joy that we experience in life and they can also be the cause of tremendous pain. Being in relationship is an opportunity to learn more about our patterns, our past and how we relate to ourselves and others.

What can I expect?

I use a mix of therapeutic modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and talk therapy to create a tailored approach to fit each of my client’s unique needs and goals. Beyond therapeutic modalities, I work with my clients to foster self-compassion, radical acceptance and curiosity for themselves, others and their overall experience.

Parts Work (IFS)

We have many different parts of ourselves that make up who we are. Sometimes these parts feel neglected, taken for granted, abandoned or they can be too dominate and need to learn how to take a step back. Getting in touch with these various parts of ourselves can be the key to finding deeper understanding and awareness to certain patterns and experiences in our lives.

Mindfulness

The more present we can be in our lives, the more we are able to identify problematic behaviors and patterns. Mindfulness encourages us to observe our thoughts, patterns and way of being in the world. Viewing our lives through this lens can help us bring curiosity to our experience. Mindfulness also helps one tune into their inner-experience during difficult situations which can ultimately lead to less reactivity, improved emotional regulation and overall more stability in life.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is all about staying present. It focuses on helping clients accept the reality of their lives and behaviors. Once there is a level of acceptance that occurs, then steps can be taken to change certain behaviors or patterns through concrete skills that we will learn together. DBT focuses on four main aspects: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Relationships and Emotional Regulation.

Attachment Theory

Attachment Theory focuses on the relationships that we had to caregivers early on in life and how these relationships may be shaping our current ones. Viewing life through this lens is a powerful tool that can help clients get closer the root of their relationship struggles as well as heal interpersonal wounds that may cause fear of intimacy, instability and make it difficult to feel close to others.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a powerful form of therapy to help heal from trauma or other distressing life situations. When we experience trauma, the brain goes offline and is not able to fully process the experience which in turn stores memories in a way that does not allow for healthy healing. EMDR helps to reprocess these stuck memories through bilateral eye movement or tapping. This type of therapy requires minimal talking and.
